The Katiba Institute (KI), a leading advocate for constitutionalism in Kenya and the region, has appointed Nora Mbagathi as its new Executive Director.
Mbagathi brings a wealth of experience to the role, boasting over ten years in human rights advocacy and strategic litigation. She has a strong background in human rights and technology, with a particular focus on issues of non-discrimination and equality.
Prior to joining KI, Mbagathi served as a senior lawyer with the Open Society Justice Initiative, a prominent human rights organization. She also brings experience working with Reprieve, a London-based charity dedicated to abolishing the death penalty.
Mbagathi holds impressive academic credentials, including a JD from the George Washington University Law School, a Master’s degree in Global Politics from the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the American University in Cairo.
“We are very pleased that Nora has taken up this leadership role,” said Jill Cottrell Ghai, Katiba Institute’s Board Chair. “Her strong leadership skills, warm personality, and proven experience in international strategic litigation, combined with the strong support of the Katiba Institute team, will be instrumental in propelling the Institution to even greater heights.”
“I am honored to be invited to lead this standard-setting organization at such a crucial moment for constitutionalism and fundamental rights in Kenya,” said Nora Mbagathi on her appointment as Executive Director. “I look forward to working with and supporting the team in their vital efforts to protect and defend the constitution.”
