Sharon Andisi, Zahra Jalalkhan and Teddy Lewis Kiemo are the winners in a digital campaign by LG Electronics dubbed “LG’s the Spot” to showcase the culinary prowess of food enthusiasts and how technology and social interaction enhances lifestyles.

The competition featured 82 entries posted through “The Spot of Delicious” at LG’s “Life’s Good Restaurant” – a dedicated online portal where entrants shared images of their favorite dishes and the stories behind them.

Sharon, who posted the best entry, received an LG Side by Side refrigerator while Zahra and Teddy received the LG SolarDOM oven and microwave oven for the second and third best entries, respectively.

A variety of recipes spanning local and international cuisines featured in the digital campaign launched in April in six countries – UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kenya, Egypt and Turkey – and involving top chefs to judge the entries.

In Kenya, LG Electronics partnered with renowned celebrity chef Ali Mandhry who selected the winning dishes and will prepare a special meal for the three winners.

“We received so many recipes and stories and had a hard time selecting the winners, but it was an exciting experience going through and connecting with the fond memories shared by the contestants,” said Chef Ali.

The entries captured cuisines from different communities in Kenya and around the world, ranging from recipes passed down generations to those sourced from the internet.

LG Electronics East Africa Managing Director, Sa Nyoung Kim said that Covid-19 had given rise to new ways of life with people social distancing and spending more time at home thus impacting many facets of life including food trends. “We are delighted to have interacted with food enthusiasts, reconnecting them to one of their passion points through this campaign and look forward to enhancing that experience through our products,” he added.

An increasing number of people are experimenting with classic dishes at home and re-creating restaurant-quality meals that bring back the fondest of memories, as they spend more time indoors due to health restrictions.
