Estonian taxi-hailing firm Bolt, on Thursday, said it is focussing aggressively on expanding its presence in Kisumu and Nakuru towns with the launch of Bolt Lite.
Bolt Lite category aims to make rides more affordable to customers, which in turn translates to more trips, hence stronger earnings for drivers.
Ola Akinnusi, Country Manager at Bolt says they have been carrying out extensive reviews to ensure that they continue to provide the best earnings for driver-partners and still remain the most preferred platform by customers.
“Our analysis indicated that a more affordable priced category will increase the amount of rides and decrease the time drivers spend waiting for the next order.
Therefore, after consulting with our drivers, we have decided to launch an optional Bolt Lite category in Kisumu and Nakuru that would help increase drivers’ activities and earnings,” said Ola Akinnusi, Country Manager at Bolt.
The launch of Bolt Lite in Kisumu and Nakuru follows a successful model in Nairobi where the Lite has been in operation since 2019.
The new category adds to the existing ride options on the platform that includes the Base option, XL, and Protect; which offers protection against the spread of Covid-19. The Lite Category is optional depending on the engine rating of the vehicle.

Bolt, formerly Taxify, is available in Nyeri, Meru, Embu, Nanyuki, Karatina, Kilifi, and Malindi.
The company launched its services in Nairobi in 2016 before entering Mombasa a year later.
In 2019, it launched in Thika, Kisumu and Kakamega, and Naivasha, Nakuru, Kitale, and Eldoret.
