Absa Bank Kenya has named Diana Mwaniki as Acting Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 July 2026 and subject to regulatory approval. She takes over from Yusuf Omari, who steps into the role of Interim Managing Director and CEO following Abdi Mohamed’s resignation.
Mwaniki joined Absa in September 2022 as Head of Financial Decision Support. She brings more than 17 years of experience in financial services, with a career built around financial strategy, performance management, governance, internal controls and risk management.
A Vote of Confidence from Leadership
Omari praised Mwaniki’s track record at the bank, saying she has strengthened financial planning and decision support since she joined. He pointed to her financial expertise and leadership as key reasons the appointment secures continuity in the bank’s financial stewardship as it pushes ahead with its strategic priorities.
Before joining Absa, Mwaniki held senior finance roles in the banking sector, where she strengthened financial controls and governance frameworks. That work supported operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and sound risk management across the institutions she served.
Academic and Professional Credentials
Mwaniki holds an MBA from the United States International University and a bachelor’s degree in banking and finance from Moi University. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and has completed executive leadership training at Duke University. She also lists membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya among her professional credentials.
Her appointment comes as Absa Bank Kenya works to maintain stability in its finance function following back to back leadership changes at the top of the organisation.
