Marriott International is expanding its luxury safari footprint in Kenya with the planned opening of two new tented camps: the Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp in August 2025, and the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp in early 2026.

These properties, developed in partnership with Lazizi Group of Companies (Lazizi Mara and Lazizi Solio, respectively), will join the existing JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge, which opened in 2023.

The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp, located within the Masai Mara National Reserve, will feature 20 luxury tented suites, including a four-bedroom presidential suite, each with private plunge pools and outdoor showers.

Amenities will include multiple dining venues, a spa and wellness centre, a stargazing sky deck, a boma, and curated game drives. Reservations are expected to start at over US$2,600 per night.

The JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, situated in the Solio Game Reserve, will offer 20 luxury tented units, including two two-bedroom suites with private plunge pools.

The camp will feature wellness spaces, four dining experiences, a Spa by JW, a swimming pool, a fitness center, a conservation house, a horse barn, a retail boutique, and an animal viewing hide. Guests can participate in activities such as guided horse-riding safaris, night game drives, and visits to a rhino orphanage.

Both camps will emphasize sustainable construction and energy-efficient infrastructure, supporting local communities through job creation, education, and wildlife conservation.

Marriott International’s expansion in Kenya is part of a broader global growth strategy, with a record development pipeline of 524 hotels and resorts worldwide as of early 2024. In Africa, the company plans to open 138 hotels with over 26,000 rooms.

“The growth of our luxury safari portfolio and The Ritz-Carlton’s debut into the segment represents a defining moment for the brand,” stated Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer, Middle East & Luxury, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International.

Jerome Briet, chief development officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International also emphasized the significance of these agreements, highlighting the growing demand for unique outdoor hospitality experiences.

Shivan Patel, Director of Lazizi Group of Companies, reiterated the commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences that celebrate Kenya’s natural and cultural heritage.
