Commercial International Bank Kenya (CIB Kenya) has appointed Abhinav Nehra as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director.

Nehra succeeds Daphne Maina, who served as acting CEO following the departure of Hossam Rageh in December 2023.

Nehra, a seasoned banking and payments leader with over three decades of experience across Africa, Asia, and other emerging markets, brings a proven track record of driving growth and innovation. He has held senior leadership roles at prominent institutions such as CitiGroup, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Network International, and Ecobank Transnational, where he successfully built and managed businesses across 36 African markets.

With a deep understanding of the African market and a passion for leveraging digitization for financial inclusion, Nehra brings a unique blend of traditional and digital banking expertise. He has successfully driven transformative initiatives in areas such as digital banking, consumer finance, digital lending, BNPL, agency banking, and SME-led embedded finance.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nehra is a dynamic public speaker with a proven ability to engage audiences. He has chaired conferences and summits for prestigious organizations such as Moody’s and the Africa Banking Summit 2020 and has moderated discussions on key industry topics including payments, fintech, digital banking, and lending in emerging markets.

“I am honoured to join CIB Kenya and excited to lead the bank into its next phase of growth,” said Nehra. “Together with the talented team here, we will focus on delivering innovative solutions and exceeding our clients’ expectations.”

CIB Kenya, a subsidiary of Egypt’s leading private financial institution, Commercial International Bank, entered the Kenyan market in 2020. The bank has been steadily expanding its footprint, focusing on retail and corporate banking, and leveraging the growing trade between Kenya and Egypt.
