VisionPlus Kenya, a leading home appliance and consumer electronics manufacturer, has announced plans to establish the country’s first-ever local plant for smart televisions and audio entertainment systems.

The investment of Kshs 125 million is part of the company’s strategy to expand its product range and shift from importing to manufacturing locally designed appliances.

Targeting underserved and emerging populations, VisionPlus aims to cater to the growing demand for quality, stylish, and convenient home appliances.

Managing Director Umesh Bhojwani highlighted the significant growth potential in the Kenyan home appliance market, driven by population growth, urbanization, and changing lifestyles.

“We want to serve the needs of the Kshs 300 billion market consisting largely of young professionals and families who value quality, style, and convenience in their homes.”

“Our analysts project demand for home appliances will grow at about 4 per cent annually, with the total volume of products sold in Kenya alone expected to rise to 23 million units by 2029,” explained Bhojwani.

Alfred K’Ombudo, Principal Secretary for Trade, noted that the recent trade agreements with the European Union and the United Arab Emirates offer opportunities for Kenyan manufacturers to expand their market reach and diversify their businesses.

The establishment of a local home appliance and consumer electronics manufacturing industry will create job opportunities and promote skills development.

Additionally, the growing digital landscape presents new opportunities for e-commerce and last-mile delivery businesses.
