Charles Ballard, previously the CEO of Jumia Kenya, has been appointed as the new CEO of Twiga Foods.

Ballard succeeds Peter Njonjo, who stepped down in December 2023 after a decade at the helm of the Kenyan agri-tech leader.

According to Hein Pretorius, Chair of Twiga’s board, Ballard’s extensive experience makes him the ideal candidate to lead Twiga into its next phase.

“His deep understanding of the Kenyan e-commerce and retail landscape, his proven operational grip, his entrepreneurial drive, and his passion for the Twiga Foods opportunity make him the ideal leader to steer Twiga into its next phase of growth and success,” Pretorius said.

With over 15 years of experience, including nine years in Kenya, Ballard brings a strong track record in e-commerce, retail, and financial services. He most recently served as CEO of Jumia Kenya.

Ballard’s Vision

Ballard expressed optimism about the future: “I am honoured to lead such a talented team at Twiga Foods during this pivotal time. With our unique value proposition, we are ideally positioned to seize key market opportunities.”

He identified opportunities to improve Twiga Food’s operations, technology, and user experience, aiming to create significant value for all stakeholders within the ecosystem.

He concluded, “I am deeply committed to developing our team and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence that will drive us into our next phase of growth.”

As the new CEO, Charles Ballard  will oversee all aspects of Twiga’s business and foster a collaborative environment.

Ballard will work alongside a robust leadership team to grow the company, including Chief Operating Officer Anjan Dasgupta, Chief Technology Officer Paul Bombo, Chief People Officer Susan Kiama, and Chief Financial Officer Zuber Momoniat.
