Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics company, has announced the development of a new mobile operating system, HyperOS.

According to the company, it will replace MIUI on future smartphones, starting with the Xiaomi 14 series.

The company has been developing HyperOS since 2017 and it is designed to power not only smartphones but also other Xiaomi devices, including future smart home appliances and electric vehicles.

The new OS is said to be a blend of Android and Xiaomi’s in-house Vela system.

By combining Android with our Xiaomi Vela, Xiaomi HyperOS completely changed the underlying architecture to serve as the basis for connecting billions of devices and connections. We’re excited to see what the future holds!,” said Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun.

The first devices to feature HyperOS will be the Xiaomi 14 series, which are expected to be unveiled later this month.

Details about the compatibility of HyperOS with older hardware have not been disclosed yet.
