In the highly contested Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament held at Sameta Grounds in Kisii County, Small Simba FC from South Mugirango made a remarkable comeback in the second half.
Despite trailing by one goal in the first half, they managed to beat Ichuni FC from Nyaribari Masaba 3-1 to claim the Kisii County title.
Ichuni had initially taken the lead in the first half with a penalty goal by Emmanuel Onuonga. However, Small Simba turned the tables in the second half following two crucial substitutions by their coach, Wycliff Magero.
Omwoyo Elijah equalized early in the second half, followed by Rashid William extending their lead. Alex Nyabwari then sealed the victory with a third goal.

In the girls’ category, Kisii Queens secured a 1-0 win against Moteiribe Girls, thanks to a goal by seventeen-year-old Christine Osebe.
Over in Siaya County, Victoria Sports Academy won the county championship in the girls’ category after defeating Jera Girls 3-1. The victory was largely due to a hat trick from super striker Leila Awuor.

However, the match between Ambira Mobimba and St. Peter’s Wagai Mixed was unfortunately abandoned due to an incident involving the referee. The verdict of this match will be determined by FKF in the coming days.
The county winners will now proceed to Safaricom Chapa Dimba Inter-County matches to secure a slot in the regional finals.
The Inter-County winners (four boys and four girls teams) will then proceed to the regional finals set for September 30th and October 1st, 2023.
A total of 530 teams, including 412 Boys’ teams and 118 Girls’ teams, featured in the Nyanza region grassroots games played from the ward level.
