Brenda Girls emerged as the champions of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Western Region after a thrilling 2-1 win over Lugari Progressive in the final match played on Sunday at Bukhungu Stadium. 

The girls from Bungoma County showed their dominance from the start, scoring one goal in the first half.

Esther Wafula opened the scoring for Brenda Girls’ in the 15th minute after her speculative long-range effort was spilt by the Lugari Progressive goalie. 

Lugari Progressive from Kakamega County tried to stage a comeback in the second half.

Star player and captain Marion Musanga brought hope for Lugari Progressive with a 75th-minute equaliser after cutting through Brenda Girls’ defence.

The winners walked away with a cash prize of Ksh 200,000 and a ticket to the national finals, where they will face other regional champions for a chance to win Ksh 1 million and a trip to Spain. 

The runners-up received Ksh 100,000 and trophies.

This year, Western Kenya registered a total of 441 teams participating in the tournament with Kakamega leading at 162, followed by Bungoma (152), Busia (64), and Vihiga (63).

The Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament is a youth football initiative that aims to nurture talent and provide opportunities for young players across the country.
