Quick Mart, a Kenyan homegrown supermarket and Equity Bank, has been making contactless transactions much more accessible with the introduction of “Tap and Go” payments with Equity Cards.

Equity cardholders will be able to use the ‘Tap and Go’ feature at the Quickmart supermarket Kisumu tills to make payments by simply tapping their card on an enabled Point of Sale (POS) machine.

“Equity being the exclusive acquirer for the supermarket has enabled all tills with the capability, to encourage contactless and cashless transactions from as low as Ksh 100 at no extra charge at the retail outlet,” said the Bank in a statement.

“Tap and Go” is a safe and secure way to pay as the card doesn’t leave your hand.

For shoppers, they will receive an SMS confirmation sent to them every time they make a payment so as to ensure that they track their expenditure.

Additionally, over the next two weeks, every 10th shopper making purchases within the hours of 2-3 pm, 3-4 pm, and 5-6 pm will receive a gift shopping voucher from the supermarket for use at the outlet.

Early this month, Equity updated its mobile banking application, Eazzy Banking App, to enhance its capabilities, user experience, and security features in line with its continuous innovation to improve customer experience and support lifestyles.

The updated Eazzy Banking App version comes with enhanced features for both iOS and Android devices, to ensure customers enjoy the digital banking experience.

The App now has an enhanced security feature that allows customers to login using fingerprint biometrics on their mobile devices. Furthermore, customers will receive a one-time verification code sent to their registered mobile number for every transaction they initiate giving them an added layer of security when using the App.

Overall, customer ability to navigate the platform and perform a wider array of transactions ranging from paying utilities, PIN reset, transferring funds across accounts and banks, and making e-commerce transactions among other capabilities, has been simplified.

Billers and merchants have been categorized according to the most popular and the favourites. This simplifies the identification of billers of choice and facilitates last-mile retail digital payments.

The upgraded App also comes with a scan to pay option, using mVisa and QR codes. Customers are able to use this as a payment option at any Equity merchant location countrywide.

Currently, Eazzy Banking App has over 1 million downloads. The app has the capability of performing 300 million transactions every second.
