Govt give Premier League and EFL green light for Project Restart
- Govt has given the leagues okay to hasten plans for restart
- Decision now allows clubs to make plans for resumption
- Mental Health and Psychosocial considerations during the COVID-19 Pandemic
The Premier League and Football League (EFL) have received a green light from the Govt to make plans for resumption.
The Premier League and EFL clubs have been making gradual plans for the resumption of the 2019/20 football season that was suspended back in March due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport released phase two of their ‘elite sport returning to training guidance’ which provides for resumption of competitive and close-contact training.
The report means that English football’s two divisions can now roll-out all plans necessary to ensure that the football season is back.
Most clubs in the two divisions have been welcoming back players for training though the training sessions have been minimal with players training in small groups.

Club managers and players are set to meet Premier League officials later on today to discuss the phase two protocols.
Phase one included clubs creating groups of five to train together while maintaining social-distancing directives.
In the next phase, clubs will be allowed to increase the number of players to 12 and also allow minimal contact such as tackling.
Clubs will then take part in a vote on Wednesday on whether the league should move to the next stage of training.
The Premier League will conduct visits from this week to ensure that clubs are not breaking the rules set down over returning to training.
The Government guidelines state:
Due to the increased risk of transmission under Stage Two conditions, the Covid-19 officer must have a clear policy for managing a Covid-19 positive individual and abide by Government guidelines and reporting requirements.
