The Kenyan Government on Tuesday restored 18 websites that had been breached on Monday by a group calling themselves the Kurd Electronics Team.
In a statement to newsrooms Monday evening, Government spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna Col. Oguna said there was no cause for alarm as the affected sites are just ‘informational’ platforms.
On Monday, the ICT Authority confirmed the attack on the 18 government websites hosted on a single server.
“This morning (Monday), a cluster of 18 government websites, hosted on a single server and managed by ICT Authority were defaced. This defacing was on websites which are devoted to sharing information with the public. These websites are not connected to any core government database or systems.
These core government databases and systems, including IFMIS and other critical infrastructure, are managed within a secure government network that has the requisite security. These remain safe and secure. A team at ICT Authority is currently working round the clock to restore normalcy.”

Affected websites include The National Youth Service (NYS), Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Immigration Department, Kenya Meat Commission, Petroleum Ministry, and Refugees Affairs.
Other sites include the National Environment Trust Fund, the Department of Planning and the National Development Implementation Technical Committee were also attacked.
