Joyce Msuya of Tanzania has been appointed the acting head of United Nations Environment Programme following the resignation of Erik Solheim. Since May 2018, she has been serving as the body’s Deputy Executive Director. Solheim confirmed his resignation following severe criticism of his global travels. According to the Guardian, a draft internal UN audit in September found Solheim had spent almost $500,000on air travel and hotels in just 22 months, and was away 80% of the time. Kenya’s house prices remained stable in the third quarter of 2018 despite a reduction in the pace of growth according to the latest Kenya Bankers Association House Price Index (KBA-HPI). During the quarter, house prices went up by 1.35 percent, representing a 0.41 percent drop from the 1.76 percent increase reported in the second quarter. The KBA-HPI attributes the stability to price changes remaining below one percent, partly due to market dynamics being tilted towards the influence of demand conditions. The Nairobi Securities Exchange has suspended the trading of shares of Fashion retailer Deacons East Africa for 40 days. This will allow Peter Kahi and Atul Shah of PKF Consulting, the joint administrators appointed to the Deacons Board to run its business according to the Insolvency Act. “The primary objective of placing the company under administration is to enable it achieve a better outcome for the creditors than would likely to be the case if the company were to be liquidated,” Deacons CEO Muchiri Wahome said in a statement.
