Kenya Railways Monday announced the resumption of the Madaraka Express passenger service. This follows President Uhuru Kenyatta’s announcement on the easing of restrictions on movement in three counties; Nairobi, Mandera, and Mombasa. CMA issues guidance for transitional arrangements The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has allowed trading at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) using the old payment rules in a bid to facilitate transitional arrangements in the sector. “The Nairobi Coffee Exchange is granted permission to operate as it works towards full compliance with the regulations and all the applicants intending to offer coffee brokerage services are allowed to continue performing the role,” CMA Acting Chief Executive, Wyckliffe Shamiah said. Kenya and the United Kingdom have agreed to commence talks on a post-Brexit trade pact. Both sides were optimistic to reach an agreement by the end of the year. According to State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, the negotiations will be conducted within the Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership Framework established by the two leaders in January 2020 and the East African Community (EAC) parameters in order to enhance regional integration. Rwanda plans to resume commercial flights from August, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced Saturday. According to the Ministry, Rwanda has already prepared necessary guidelines to resume domestic and international flights as per the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Health. The Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) approved International Finance Corporation(IFC) and Shelter Afrique as shareholders. KMRC is a public-private partnership (PPP) firm formed by the government to make home loans affordable in the country. The two were admitted during the first virtual Annual General Meeting after each contributed KSh200 million. KMRC disclosed to have raised KSh2 billion as capital from shareholders. Other shareholders include the National Treasury, and 20 Primary Mortgage Lenders (PMLs), eight commercial banks, one Micro Finance Bank, and 11 Savings and Credit Cooperatives.
