KSh263 Billion is in circulation according to the Central Bank of Kenya after announcing on Saturday that it will be withdrawing the old version of its 1,000 banknotes. The old version of Kenya’s Ksh.1000 currency notes will be out of circulation by October 1 this year the Central Bank has announced aimed to fight counterfeit and illicit financial flows. Speaking when he unveiled the new legal tender at the Madaraka Day celebrations in Narok, CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge said the move is intended to fight counterfeit practices. “All the older Ksh.1000 series shall be withdrawn. The cost of living in Kenya eased slightly in May to 5.49% compared to 6.58% in April on account of favourable weather conditions which resulted in lower food prices. “The food and non-alcoholic drinks index decreased by 0.3% in May mainly due to favourable weather conditions which led to lower prices for some commodities,” the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Director General Zachary Mwangi said in a statement on Friday.
