Diaspora remittances inflows into Kenyaremains as strong as ever despite the global downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic says the Central Bank. Data from the Central Bank indicates that remittance inflows remained strong in September amounting to USD 260.7 million compared to USD 214.7 million in September 2019, an increase of 21.4 percent. The cumulative inflows in the 12 months to September totalled USD 2,967 million compared to USD 2,786 million in the 12 months to September 2019. Kenya tea exports have dipped marginally from 337,000 tons in 2019 to 323,000 tons in 2020 according to data. The Tea Directorate says this is due to a decrease in the demand for the produce in the world market which witnessed a 7 percent drop in exports to Pakistan and a 14 percent drop in exports to Egypt. Pakistan is Kenya’s largest market, shipping about 36 percent of the total production. On the other hand, the volume of tea produced in the eight months grew by 33 percent representing 375,000 tons against 281,000 tons in the same period in 2019.…
