The EABL Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CARE International, committing over KSh 35 million to empower 1,600 marginalised individuals within its value chain. The investment marks a milestone in EABL’s Spirit of Progress strategy, which champions inclusion and diversity by ensuring that at least half of community program beneficiaries are women.
Two Strategic Pillars of Empowerment
The partnership will roll out a community empowerment model across two focus areas:
- Farmer Empowerment: Supporting 1,500 small‑scale sorghum farmers in Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Siaya to boost productivity and resilience. At least 60% of these farmers will be women, reinforcing gender equity in agriculture.
- Enterprise & Business Skills: Launching the Tuzidi Kuinuana pilot program to strengthen entrepreneurial orientation and profitability for 100 Senator Bar owners in Kisumu.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Eric Kiniti, Managing Director of EABL Foundation, said:
“At EABL, we champion inclusion and diversity through our Spirit of Progress strategy. Through this partnership with CARE International, we will continue to empower women and elevate the economic status of communities.”
Michelle Nunn, President and CEO of CARE International, added:
“Private sector collaboration is the engine of social justice. By integrating our gender‑transformative tools into EABL’s supply chain, we are ensuring that 1,500 farmers and 100 bar owners don’t just participate in the economy they lead it.”
Expanding Gender Inclusion Across the Value Chain
According to EABL sustainability 2025 report, the range of approaches to support women along its supply chain is helping to shape the economic outlook of the communities it works with. The company is well on its way to achieving — and surpassing — its 2030 goal of 50% women in leadership roles, as well as increasing the number of women suppliers across its value chain.
Jacqueline Wanyama, Group HR Director, emphasized:
“Achieving true workplace gender equality means ensuring that all individuals, regardless of sex, have equal access to opportunities, rewards, and resources. Advancing the inclusion of women is not about excluding men; rather, it is about creating workplaces where everyone can thrive. Men are vital allies and active participants in building equitable, inclusive environments that benefit all. We are committed to creating the most inclusive and diverse culture, shaping market‑leading policies and practices that help us attract the best and most diverse talent — driving both innovation and commercial performance.”
Commitment to Inclusion and Diversity
This partnership reaffirms EABL’s commitment to its Spirit of Progress strategy under the Champion Inclusion and Diversity pillar. By building a resilient, representative, and equitable supply chain, EABL aims to drive socio‑economic growth in the communities where it operates.
