Akbar Al Baker, the Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, is retiring after 27 years at the helm of the company.
His retirement will take effect on November 5.
Akbar Al Baker will be succeeded by Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, who is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer of Hamad International Airport in Doha, the hub of Qatar’s national carrier.
“Qatar Airways Group confirms after 27 years of remarkable service, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive – His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, will be stepping down from his current position as Group Chief Executive effective 5 November 2023, and will be succeeded by Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer as Group Chief Executive for Qatar Airways,” the airline said in a statement.
“Under H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker’s leadership, Qatar Airways has grown to become one of the most recognisable and trusted brands globally, synonymous with customer service quality and the highest of standards,” said the airline.
Qatar Airways flies to more than 160 destinations worldwide, connecting through its Doha hub, Hamad International Airport.
