Kenyan singer Njerae released the official music video for “Ingia Ndani” on 18 March 2026, her first single of the year and the first visual she has put out since signing to Universal Music Kenya Limited.
The song, produced by Hendrick Sam and directed on video by Maghanga Collins, arrived on 6 March 2026. It runs just over three minutes and marks a deliberate step away from the fuller, more layered arrangements of her debut album toward something quieter and closer.
The Song
“Ingia Ndani” — Swahili for “come inside” — is built around a stripped-back arrangement of gentle percussion, soft guitar textures, and light synth. The production stays restrained throughout, keeping Njerae’s vocals at the centre rather than building toward any dramatic peak. K24 Digital described the result as feeling like a quiet, late-night conversation.
The second verse draws the emotional stakes clearly: “Mbona hujaingia ndani / If I walk away samahani / Coz you had your chance hapo zamani”, acknowledging missed chances and past hesitation while holding open the possibility of reconnection.
Njerae described her collaboration with Hendrick Sam in terms that explain the sound. “He doesn’t just make beats, he builds a world around the emotion of the song,” she said. “With ‘Ingia Ndani,’ we were very intentional about creating something that feels warm, intimate, but still catchy.”
Sam is known in Nairobi’s production circuit for his work on Bien and Bensoul’s “Extra Pressure” and Savara’s “Show You Off,” among other Kenyan releases.
The Video
Director Maghanga Collins mirrors the restraint of the production in the visuals. The video uses considered lighting and framing to carry the song’s central tension, the pull between wanting closeness and resisting it, without overpowering the mood of the track.
Njerae said the release feels like a turning point. “This song is an invitation, to let someone see you fully, without walls. ‘Ingia Ndani’ feels like a new chapter for me, sonically and personally. It’s about the courage it takes to be seen.”

Where Njerae Stands
Born Njeri Mwengi, Njerae came to music through an indirect route. She turned to poetry and songwriting as a teenager after surviving a matatu bombing in Nairobi, and later formalised her craft at Sauti Academy. She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Nairobi, a background that surfaces regularly in the precision of her lyrical framing.
She has cited Phy as the first African woman she saw playing guitar and singing soulful love songs, and credits Phy’s song “Taboo” with pushing her to enrol at Sauti Academy.
Her debut album Unintentional, released in 2022, has passed 14.5 million streams. The standout single “Aki Sioni” crossed 7.5 million streams alone. She signed with Universal Music Group East Africa in 2024, became a Spotify EQUAL Africa Ambassador, and was selected for Apple Music’s Africa Rising Class of 2025.
She headlined the Kenya Magical Open Golf Tournament in February 2026 and made her debut at the Kikuyu Love Sessions the same month. An Australian tour spanning Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane runs from 10 to 18 April 2026, her first shows in that market.
