Equity Bank Tanzania Limited has appointed Fauzia Malik and Angelica Tarimo as Non-Executive Directors, bringing the total number of women on the board to five.
The appointments were announced on 12 March 2026 and authorised by Adili Corporate Services Kenya LLP, the company’s secretary.
Chairman Dr. Florens Martin Turuka welcomed both appointments. “Their extensive experience in entrepreneurship, governance, taxation, and strategic leadership will add tremendous value to the Board as we guide the Bank’s continued growth and transformation,” he said.
Equity Bank Tanzania is a subsidiary of Equity Group Holdings Plc and is regulated by the Bank of Tanzania.
Fauzia Malik: Manufacturing, Consumer Goods, and Entrepreneurship
Fauzia Malik holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration from Barat College of DePaul University. She serves concurrently as Managing Director of Tembo Tiles Limited, Chief Executive Officer of Super Meals Limited (Cool Blue), and Founder and Director of Baby Tembo Limited.
Malik is an active member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Tanzania chapter, where she has served as Chapter President and Membership Chair. She also holds membership of the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania.
Angelica Tarimo: Tax, Audit, and Governance
Angelica Tarimo brings over 20 years of tax and governance experience to the board. She holds an MBA from the Eastern and Southern Africa Institute of Management (ESAMI) and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and a registered tax consultant.
Tarimo currently serves as Partner and Head of Tax at Claritas International, leading the firm’s tax practice across direct and indirect taxation, international tax structuring, corporate transactions, and dispute resolution. She previously held senior roles at PwC and Deloitte. Beyond private practice, she sits on the board of the National Insurance Corporation of Tanzania, chairs its Risk and Governance Committee, and has served on committees of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA).
Sara Ezra Teri: Sustainability, ESG, and Development Finance
Sara Ezra Teri holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the University of Manchester and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science — with minors in Women’s Studies and Global Studies — from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
She brings over 18 years of senior management experience across private sector and non-profit development. Teri currently serves as Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sustainable Africa Company Ltd in Dar es Salaam. Prior roles include Advisor for Social Performance at Tembo Nickel Corporation, Programs Director and Interim Executive Director at MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation in Arusha, and Community Relations Practitioner at African Barrick Gold and Acacia Mining in Tanzania.
Teri specialises in structuring multimillion-dollar development investments using Public-Private Partnership, ESG, Corporate Social Investment, and human rights frameworks. She also serves as a board member for the Girls Livelihood and Mentorship Initiative in Arusha and the Tanzania Bora Initiative in Dar es Salaam.
Evelyn Rutagwenda: Public Finance, Audit, and Regional Governance
Evelyn Rutagwenda holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University, Kampala, and is a Certified Public Accountant and member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) — an institution she helped found. In 2009, she received an ACCA Achievements Award for her contribution to developing the accountancy and finance profession across the region.
Rutagwenda previously served as Auditor General of the Republic of Rwanda, Secretary-General of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Chief Auditor at UCA Auditing Services. She also served as consultant and project accountant for Uganda’s Decentralisation Secretariat under the Ministry of Local Government.
Her board portfolio spans multiple markets and institutions. She completed terms in 2021 as Chair of Equity Bank Rwanda Plc, MTN Rwanda, and Crystal Telecom Limited, and has previously served on the boards of Equity Group Holdings Plc, Equity Bank Uganda Limited, Total Uganda Limited, and Victoria Motors Rwanda Limited. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Rwanda Development Board.
Five Women on a Single Board
The composition of Equity Bank Tanzania’s board now reflects a cross-section of expertise spanning tax, audit, public finance, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and development investment — all held by women directors. Malik and Tarimo join Teri, Rutagwenda, and Managing Director Isabela Maganga, who brings 16 years of banking experience and holds a Master of Science in Finance and Investments from Coventry University.
