Sun King, the world’s leading off-grid solar energy company, has unveiled a refreshed logo as part of a broader brand transformation.
The new identity reflects the company’s growing product portfolio—from solar home systems and high-capacity inverters to pay-as-you-go smartphones—designed to deliver reliable, affordable energy and technology across Africa and Asia.
“Our refreshed logo reflects our commitment to our customers—to deliver more affordable solar for their homes, more appliances that make life easier, and more power to support the businesses, schools, and communities they depend on,” said Anish Thakkar, Co-Founder of Sun King.
“Switch to More!” Campaign Launches
To mark the rebrand, Sun King has launched a public-facing campaign titled “Switch to More!” spotlighting its expanded offerings.
Product Expansion: Powering 24M+ Households
Sun King’s transformation includes:
- HomePlus and HomePlus Pro solar systems for multi-room lighting and phone charging
- PowerHub and PowerPlay Pro inverters for consistent energy in homes, businesses, and institutions
- Pay-as-you-go smartphones to boost digital connectivity
With over 24 million households powered and 300,000 new systems installed monthly, Sun King continues to redefine energy access across the continent.
“Switch to More!” Events Across Africa
To celebrate the brand refresh, Sun King will host community events in cities across Africa, showcasing new products and sharing real-life stories from households and businesses using solar energy to power their lives.
$156M Securitisation to Scale Solar Access in Kenya
In July, Sun King closed a landmark $156 million (KES 20.1 billion) local currency securitization—its second and largest in Kenya. The deal will enable an estimated 1.4 million low-income households and businesses to access electricity, often for the first time, replacing costly and polluting fuels like kerosene and diesel.
“Millions of off-grid households have switched to solar thanks to small ‘pay-as-you-go’ loans. This deal signals a major turning point for green energy finance in Africa,” said Thakkar.
“It shows that African commercial banks believe in the power of pay-as-you-go solar and are ready to back it with serious capital.”
Financing Structure & Impact
The transaction includes:
- Senior tranche funded by: Absa Bank Kenya, Citi, The Co-operative Bank of Kenya, KCB Bank, and Stanbic Bank Kenya
- Mezzanine tranche backed by British International Investment, FMO, and Norfund
Privately rated by a credit agency, the funds were raised under Sun King’s Sustainable Financing Framework, which earned a “Very Good (SQS2)” score from Moody’s Investor Relations.
“This securitisation demonstrates the effectiveness of pay-as-you-go business models to reach underserved communities at scale,” said Jorge Rubio Nava, Citi’s Global Head of Social Finance.
“We’ve successfully partnered with Sun King to develop innovative financial tools that bring sustainable and affordable energy solutions to millions of households across Kenya and beyond.”
