In celebration of Caterpillar’s 100-year global and Kenyan legacy, Mantrac Kenya Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Rotary Club of Karen and St. Mary’s Karen Primary & Junior School.
The agreement will fund and complete four unfinished Grade 9 classrooms, providing much-needed learning space in one of Nairobi’s fast-growing school communities.
“Our true legacy is not just in the infrastructure we help build — but in the lives we touch and the futures we help shape,” said Mohamed Ibrahim, Managing Director, Mantrac Kenya.
Signed with Purpose
The MOU was signed by Mohamed Ibrahim, Managing Director of Mantrac Kenya; Linet Ayuko, President of the Rotary Club of Karen; and Louis Okodoi, Chairman of the Board of Governors of St. Mary’s School.
Mantrac will lead the completion of the classrooms, including flooring, painting, electrical work, and fittings, while Rotary coordinates community engagement, monitoring, and storytelling. The Ministry of Education and school administration will collaborate closely throughout.
“Education is the most powerful foundation we can help lay for the country’s next century,” added Ibrahim. “This is how we build Kenya — not just with equipment, but with purpose.”
A Milestone in Corporate Social Responsibility
The initiative reflects Mantrac’s commitment to corporate social responsibility beyond charity, embracing long-term investments in education, inclusive growth, and skills development across Africa.
For the Rotary Club of Karen, the collaboration marks a dual celebration, aligning with 100 years of Rotary’s service in Africa.
“This is not just a construction project; it is a contribution to a brighter future,” said Linet Ayuko, President of the Rotary Club of Karen. “By bringing partners together under a shared vision, we are uniting for good.”
Impact at the School Level
Located in Karen, Kibera, St. Mary’s Primary School serves learners under both the KCPE and CBC frameworks. Despite growing enrollment, the school faces infrastructural challenges, including overcrowded classrooms and limited facilities. Completion of the new classrooms will significantly enhance teaching and learning conditions.
