The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has named Carol Koech its new Vice President for Africa, effective August 1, 2025.
Carol brings over two decades of leadership experience spanning energy transformation, sustainability, and regional private-sector growth. She previously served as Strategy Director for Sustainability and Thought Leadership at Schneider Electric, where she helped scale global energy access programs reaching over 50 million people.
“Carol’s appointment marks a powerful step forward for GEAPP’s work in Africa,” said Woochong Um, CEO of GEAPP.
“She brings a deep understanding of Africa’s energy landscape, a passion for equity and access, and the proven ability to lead through complexity.”
As Country President for East Africa at Schneider Electric, Carol also spearheaded regional expansion, built cross-sector partnerships, and drove inclusive business models. Her career includes senior roles at General Electric and Unilever, underscoring her pan-African perspective and depth in sustainable development.
“Access to clean, reliable energy is the foundation of inclusive economic growth,” said Carol Koech.
“I’m honored to join GEAPP and lead this next chapter of impact—supporting governments with just transition strategies, unlocking enterprise growth, and helping deliver bold solutions through Mission 300.”
With 600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa still lacking electricity, Carol joins at a critical juncture. GEAPP’s flagship initiative, Mission 300, aims to connect 300 million people to reliable power by 2030, driven by a coalition of public, private, and philanthropic partners including the World Bank, African Development Bank, SEforALL, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
Her appointment is expected to strengthen GEAPP’s engagement with African governments, businesses, and entrepreneurs, while reinforcing its positioning as a clean energy catalyst on the continent.
