SuperSport, the home of sport on DStv and GOtv, will broadcast every match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) live from 2 to 30 August 2025, delivering top-tier African football to fans across the continent.
Hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, this eighth edition of CHAN celebrates local talent, national pride, and the spirit of the beautiful game, featuring 19 national teams composed solely of players competing in domestic leagues.
First-Ever Tri-Nation Staging
Originally slated for early 2025, the tournament was postponed due to infrastructure delays. It now marks:
- The first CHAN was co-hosted by three nations
- A regional milestone spotlighting East Africa’s emergence as a rising football powerhouse
Why 19 Teams?
The tournament features 19 teams due to a mix of qualification quirks and late withdrawals:
- CAF allocated 19 slots (3 per regional zone + 1 extra for hosts)
- Uganda qualified twice—automatically and through competition—raising participant count
- Libya withdrew in November 2024, citing fixture congestion; CAF retained all slots by reallocating the vacancy
Rehearsal for AFCON 2027
As hosts of AFCON 2027, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are using CHAN to test:
- Stadium infrastructure (Kasarani, Nyayo, Mkapa, Namboole)
- Operational systems, including VAR, logistics, fan safety, and hospitality
- Regional readiness to stage Africa’s biggest football event
“CHAN is a precursor for AFCON and a major opportunity to simulate cross-border tournament management,” said CAF officials during inspection visits.

Past Champions & Rising Stars
Since launching in 2009, CHAN has showcased domestic talent:
- Past winners: DR Congo (2009, 2016), Tunisia (2011), Libya (2014), Morocco (2018, 2020), Senegal (2023)
- Morocco remains a favourite, backed by a robust Botola Pro league
- Senegal enters as defending champions
- Nigeria, fresh off a big qualifying win over Ghana, returns with renewed flair
- DR Congo and the three hosts—Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda—hold strong home-ground potential
