In a bold move to bridge Africa’s AI literacy gap and empower the next generation of tech-savvy professionals, This is Digital will announce the launch of its AI Literacy Program, set to begin on August 5th, 2025.
The launch, themed ‘The Age of AI: A Reality Check,’ will take place in Nairobi on 16 July and coincides with the global observance of International Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day.
This day celebrates progress in artificial intelligence while raising awareness about its potential benefits and ethical challenges. It serves as a timely platform to examine AI’s transformative impact across key sectors such as healthcare, finance, and education, and emphasises the urgency of fostering responsible AI development.
AI Literacy for All
The upcoming AI Literacy Program is designed to offer both online and in-person bootcamp-style classes tailored for:
- Young professionals and recent graduates seeking market-relevant skills.
- Entrepreneurs and business leaders exploring AI-driven innovation.
- Educators and students who are eager to integrate AI into academic contexts.
- Tech enthusiasts who are passionate about ethical AI development.
Participants will gain hands-on knowledge, ethical grounding, and foundational skills needed to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving digital world. With recurring cohorts launching monthly, the initiative promises sustained impact and wide accessibility.
Kenya’s AI Moment
Ranked 6th in Africa for AI readiness by the 2024 Oxford Insights Index, Kenya is ripe for transformation. Subsequently, Kenya is currently developing a national AI policy, and initiatives like This is Digital’s bootcamp are expected to catalyse broader adoption across sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and public service.
“Africa’s future will be shaped by how boldly we embrace AI today. This program is not just about technology—it’s about empowerment, equity, and vision,” said a spokesperson from This is Digital.
