Radisson Hotel Group’s expansion in East Africa, particularly in Tanzania, marks a key milestone in its regional growth strategy.
Over the past 15 months, the group has expanded into Tanzania, a vibrant East African market with growing tourism and business potential.
This strategic entry enhances the group’s diverse portfolio, which now spans 100 hotels across more than 30 African countries. The move aligns with Radisson’s broader goal of geographical diversification while capitalising on East Africa’s economic and tourism growth.
“Tanzania represents a pivotal step in our East African expansion,” said Ramsay Rankoussi, Vice President, Development, Africa and Türkiye, Radisson Hotel Group.
“Our entry into this dynamic market underscores our commitment to diversifying our presence and delivering world-class hospitality in high-potential regions.”
Broader African Growth Context
Radisson’s East African expansion is part of a broader growth trajectory across the continent. In the last 15 months, the Group has signed 11 hotels and opened 7, adding over 2,000 signed and 1,500 opened rooms, with 1,000 through conversions. Key achievements include:
- New Market Entries: Beyond Tanzania, Radisson entered the Democratic Republic of Congo with the signing of Radisson Blu Hotel, Kinshasa (opening late 2026), and Radisson Hotel Lubumbashi (opening mid-2027), and Guinea with the opening of Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry.
- Central Africa Strengthening: The signing of Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Yaoundé, in Cameroon (opening by end-2026) further solidifies the group’s presence in the region.
- Indian Ocean Portfolio: The signing and opening of Crystals Beach Resort Belle Mare, a Radisson Individuals property in Mauritius, enhances the group’s leisure offerings.
Strategic Approach and Future Outlook
Radisson’s success in East Africa and beyond is driven by its focus on high-impact conversions, strong local partnerships, and a robust development pipeline.
The group’s ability to swiftly convert and open properties, such as the Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry (opened three months after signing), highlights its operational efficiency.
Looking ahead, Radisson aims to deepen its East African presence while consolidating key markets like Morocco (targeting 30 hotels by 2030), South Africa (25 hotels by 2030), and Nigeria.
“Our expansion in Tanzania and other African markets reflects our adaptability and commitment to unlocking economic value through hospitality,” Rankoussi added.
