The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has launched the 7th edition of the Kuza Awards, now known as the Kuza ICT Awards.

This year’s awards aim to recognize and promote excellence across the ICT sector, not just broadcasting, with the theme “Innovation for a sustainable digital future.”

New Awards Categories Reflect Industry Growth

Based on consumer and industry stakeholder feedback, the Kuza ICT Awards have expanded their scope.

A new “People’s Choice Award” category recognizes creativity and innovation in embracing new trends and technologies.

The awards process involves several stages: launch, public voting, jury selection, and a culminating awards gala.

David Mugonyi, Director General of the Communications Authority, emphasized the importance of the awards in his opening remarks.

“Kuza means to ‘nurture,’ which is exactly what we hope to achieve. We believe that recognizing exceptional performance and impact will spur excellence across the sector,” said Mugonyi.

He stressed the CA’s role in fostering collaboration within the ICT sector and creating an environment for growth.

ICT Week: A Platform for Engagement and Collaboration

Mugonyi also highlighted the significance of ICT Week, a forum designed to engage stakeholders in exploring emerging issues, addressing concerns, and shaping the future of Kenya’s ICT sector.

He noted ICT Week’s success in fostering collaboration and innovation within the industry.

“The ICT week has allowed us to improve relationships with the sector players, increased collaboration and hassle, and innovation, all of which helped to move this important sector and the country’s socio-economic agenda forward.”

Mugonyi explained the decision to merge the Kuza Broadcasting Awards with a broader ICT award program, reflecting the growth and importance of the entire ICT sector.

The Kuza ICT Awards aim to energize ICT Week and celebrate achievements across the industry, including telecommunications, postal and courier services.

The public can participate in the People’s Choice Award category by voting for their favourite ICT initiatives commencing 22 April 2024.
