Nicholas Mwendwa retained the Football Kenya Federation chairmanship after he garnered  77 votes during the FKF national elections held Saturday at Safari Park, Nairobi.

His closest challenger Lordvick Aduda got five votes. Herbert Mwachiro garnered three votes while Bonface Osano and Daniel Mule didn’t get a single vote.

“77 votes. 7 is the number of completeness and perfection…symbolizing everything positive and valuable. 77 is complete completeness! Mwendwa Tweeted Sunday. “…This clearly shows that the delegates have more confidence in me, better than they did four years ago.”

In 2016, he won by 54 votes out of the 78 cast defeating his closest opponent Ambrose Rachier who received 27 votes.

What Next?

“I’ll be going for one of the two slots for the English speaking countries at the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Council. I will partner with both Cosafa and Cecafa to seek their support for the position,” said Mwendwa.

Fifa has seven council positions for Africa. Two seats for English speaking countries, two for French-speaking countries, one automatic slot for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, one for an Arabic speaking country and one general slot.

Margaret Anyango was elected the women’s representative after defeating Violet Kerubo Momanyi by a vote – 43  and 42 votes respectively.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad congratulated Mwendwa for being re-elected on a new 4-year tenure.

“This second term, which you obtained by an impressive majority, is the demonstration that your entire term has been appreciated and strongly supported. I encourage you on this path to success which reflects the prestigious ambition of the Kenyan nation which has made the sport a national priority,” read the letter signed by the caf president.
